On 28 August 2026, a notice appeared in the Berea Mail for the construction of a Fuel Depot, Hazardous Materials Storage and Truck Stop at 4 Oliver Lea Drive, Umbilo (the old Telkom site). The site is less than 300 metres from the entrance to houses and flats in Bartle Road. However, such a development could have a negative impact on infrastructure, health and safety and the environment of Ward 33 and the adjacent wards as a whole.
