REPAIR WORK UNDERWAY ON LEAK AFFECTING THE NORTHERN AQUEDUCT
The eThekwini Municipality wishes to advise residents and business that the Northern Aqueduct has been isolated following a major leak in the vicinity of the M25 Highway near Duffs Road in the Mount Moriah area.
Due to severe flooding at the site, all three pipelines of the Northern Aqueduct were isolated on Tuesday, 21 July, to allow for dewatering and water diversion so that repair teams can safely access the affected area.
Repair work will commence today, Wednesday, 22 July, immediately after the site has been sufficiently dewatered.
It is anticipated that repairs will be completed by midnight on 22 July after which the process of refilling all affected reservoirs will begin.
Restoration of water supply will vary across the system depending on reservoir recovery and consumer demand.
Residents supplied by reservoirs fed from the uMngeni-uThukela Water Durban Heights Water Treatment Works (WTW) through the Northern Aqueduct will experience water supply interruptions during this shutdown.
Affected areas:
Phoenix 1: Mount Edgecombe Hospital, Mount Edgecombe Estate, Broadlands, Southgate, Stonebridge, Clayfield, Campbells Town and Greenbury.
Phoenix 2: Sunford, Hannaford, Phoenix Highway, Longcroft, Longbury, Plaza, Southbury, Eastbury, Grove End, Sastri Park, Caneside, Canehaven and Woodview.
Phoenix 3: Redfern, Phoenix Industrial Park, Fernham, Whetstone and Bridge City.
Phoenix 4: Westham, Trenance Manor, Gandhi Settlement, Lenham, Fernham, Brookdale, Whetstone, Bhambayi , Amaoti and Sunford.
Phoenix 5: Woodview, Cornubia, Ottawa, Palmview and Trenance Park.
Phoenix 6: Mount Moriah and Corobrik.
Mountview Reservoir: Mountview, Brindhaven, Southridge, Glenhaven, Parkgate and Riet River.
Trenance 1 Reservoir: Dawncrest, Oaklands, Surya Heights, Sanna Township, Riet River, Mountview, Parkgate and Trenance Old Phase.
Trenance 3 Reservoir: Amaoti, Trenance Park (Old and New Phases), Redcliffe, Buffelsdraai and Groenburg Estate.
